The Hidden Genius Project

The Hidden Genius Project was founded in 2012 by five Black male entrepreneurs/technologists who were unnerved by the dramatic juxtaposition between the high unemployment of Black male youth and the plethora of career opportunities within the local technology sector. The founders established a program to connect young Black males with the skills, mentors, and experiences that they need to become high-performing entrepreneurs and technologists in a 21st century, global economy.

Problem Statement

How might we assess and capitalize on volunteer engagement for the benefit of The Hidden Genius Project?

Objective

Create solutions that facilitate awareness, promote understanding, and ultimately recognize the power of each volunteer associated with The Hidden Genius Project for long term benefit. Find solutions to challenge assumptions, change the way people think, embrace different viewpoints, and provide access points for the leadership team to harness and manage their volunteer assets.

Brainstorm Phase 1

The team collectively started brainstorming and researching pieces that would help support the problem. Subtopics to support problem:

• Individual Volunteers
• Local Community; South L.A. and Greater LA
• Corporate Partnerships

Brainstorm Phase 2

During the ideation phase, the team started to gather some findings and possible solutions and went through some whiteboarding sessions to discuss our thoughts.
